When I first registered for google voice it takes you through a home/work/mobile number verification process. I noticed that when I would click on the 'call me' button a yellow status message saying that my phone could not be verifed. I must have spent about 10 minutes trying to get the site to call my cell but it wouldn't. After a period of time, it would say 'verifying....' and then say it couldn't verify. After I gave up I got a phone call 10 minutes later and it was the verification call! It was asking me for verification code and it wasn't on my screen anymore. Good thing I remember numbers well!
