Recently I had an issue with someone's Lotus Notes client not loading. They would double click their Lotus Notes icon, only the Lotus Notes splash screen / loading screen showed and the user could enter their password. After the password was entered, the splash screen disappeared. Then I would see nlnotes.exe and notes2.exe in the task manager, but Lotus Notes still didn't show.
I had the user reboot and that didn't work. Next I tried loading Lotus Notes 8.5.2 since they were at 8.5.1 and that didn't work. Next I reconfigured their client by erasing all lines in their notes.ini except the top 10, deleting ( moving ) all .nsf files in their data folder, and deleting ( moving ) all .ndk files. That didnt' work. Finally I deleted ( moved )the "workspace" folder in their /data/ folder. That finally worked. The workspace folder was about 2.5 gb!
Next time try just deleting the data\cache.ndk file if that doesnt work go back and delete data\cache.ndk and the data\workspace folder.
ReplyDeleteThanks ADUB, this happened to me again recently and I started troubleshooting at deleting my data\workspace folder and that fixed it.
ReplyDeleteGetting rid of data\workspace worked for me as well.
ReplyDeleteAnyone knows the reason why it is happening?

Hi,
ReplyDeleteThank you all very much you fixed my notes issue!
Hi,
ReplyDeletei tried killing notes process in the Task manager and it worked.
Udaya
Glad that worked for you! I haven't had much luck killing notes processes and even rebooting the PC with this particular issue. Also, if you or someone else reading this isn't comfortable with killing notes processes, try going to the your Start menu > Lotus Applications > Support > Collect Lotus Notes diagnostic data and exit Notes. That will clean any processes still out there. Thanks for the post!
DeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteIt happen intermittently with our people's machine, but we cannot simple delete the workspace folder or cache.ndk to solve the problem. Sometime we need to reinstall the client to let it work. Is anyone know what the problem cause and any better workaround on this.
Thanks guys you sorted me out big time. Deleted the workspace initially but the problem still persisted then went ahead to run the Collect Lotus Notes diagnostics data and exit Notes under All programs >> Lotus Applications >> Support
ReplyDeleteSame here. I deleted the data\workspace folder and it was fixed. Prior to that step, I tried all other non-destructive steps that others suggested (e.g., killing notes processes) but nothing worked until I deleted the folder.
ReplyDeleteI tried and it works. You can just backup the workspace folder and cache file, then delete from original space. After login, if it back to normal, just close it and copy back the workspace and cache. everuthing will just fine.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar problem with Lotus Notes 8.5.3, deleted the workspace folder and it worked.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
