Lotus Protector for mail security 2.6 (2.5)

A few weeks ago I are started looking at Lotus Protector for mail security version 2.5 ( now 2.6 ). Since this is my first look at it ( I've worked with Barracuda and postini as well as Lotus Domino solutions like Spam Sentinel and Spam Jam ) the learning curve was a little steep :) The hardest concept was the policy rules and how they mesh together. Below is a screen shot of the home screen:

It didn't take long for me to recognize how powerful Lotus Protector for mail security is! Like Barracuda it has a rating system but unlike Barracuda you can customize the filters, allow, block, continue until you are blue in the face! It uses a rule system too, check out the image below:

One major hurdle is the Who objects and if they are 'Active'. There is a check box to make those objects active. However this is very deceiving because if a rule references that disabled who object, it is active... crazy right?

Another advantage is Lotus Domino LDAP directory sync. This allows your users to log into Lotus Protector using their Lotus Domino internet password to check their allow, block lists and quarantine!

More to come about protector....

Traveler for Android ( 8.5.2 beta ) - Update

I installed the Traveler Android beta client again on Saturday night and I haven't had issues with it. I think the issue might have been me terminating the app using a task killer app but I don't know. In viewing the log it is connecting to the server about every 10 minutes.

Traveler for Android ( 8.5.2 beta ) - Update

Today I noticed that my phone didn't charge completely over night and it was warm to the touch all day. After loading OS Mon I found the Traveler task using 70% of the cpu! I think something got corrupted because I stopped receiving email alerts through Traveler. I checked the log and it seems that traveler was checking the server every few seconds ( not sure if this is normal ) I uninstalled the traveler app and installer and it is back to normal. I will re-install on Monday.

Issue with Lotus Quickplace to Lotus Quickr upgrade and place authentication

Recently I followed the wiki to upgrade Lotus Quickplace 6.5.1 to Lotus Quickr 8.2.

http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/lqwiki.nsf/dx/overview-of-upgrading-from-quickplace-to-quickr-8.2

The problem is that the Lotus Quickr server had no directory authentication ( doesn't use domino or ldap ) and used authentication on a place by place biases. The upgrade cause a problem because the the default authentication for the web was using the names.nsf?login HTML form. When using this form to authenticate quickplace logins, it would fail every time.

To fix this there is a technote ( QPTR5UC3XP )
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21222060

This technote basically says to create a domcfg.nsf database and create a custom login form. The custom login form will point to LotusQuickr/resources.nsf ( in Quickplace 7 and before the path was Quickplace/resources.nsf ) and the Target Form is QuickPlaceLoginForm.

If you have a directory type of (No Directory) and Name (No Name), this change is important because with out it you will not be able to log into your places.

Evo 4G auto location weather

So for the last few days I've noticed something strange with my weather location. I have it updating my location automatically and GPS is enabled. The update schedule is every hour.

The location that my Evo shows when I am located in downtown St. Louis says  "Ford Motor Credit Co (Current)". When I go home, it changes to "St. Louis (Current)". Weird right?
